How to Care for Gold Jewellery
Gold does not rust or oxidise. What dulls is surface dirt — and it is easy to remove.
After wearing
Wipe the piece with a dry or soft cotton cloth. Sweat and creams leave a film that dulls the shine over time.
What to avoid
Perfume and deodorant applied directly to the piece, chlorine (swimming pools) and harsh cleaners. Put your jewellery on last, after perfume, and take it off before swimming.
Storage
Keep each piece on its own, in a separate compartment or fabric pouch. Gold scratches gold when pieces are stored together.
Deep cleaning
Warm water with a few drops of mild soap and a soft brush for the openwork, then rinse and dry. Set pieces are best cleaned by a jeweller.
Quick questions
Does water damage gold?
Ordinary water does not harm gold. The problem is chlorine (swimming pools) and harsh cleaners, and the build-up of soap and creams on the surface.
