What Is Bahraini Gold?
“Bahraini gold” is a phrase you hear often in Gulf shops, and it is sometimes mistaken for a karat. It is not one.
A style of craft, not a karat
The term refers to the school of making and finishing historically associated with Bahrain's workshops, not to the gold content. A Bahraini piece may be 21K or 22K — and the karat is stamped on it separately.
What sets it apart?
Fine hand-pierced openwork: open spaces within the piece give it a broad visual presence while keeping it light. That is why it is often chosen for bridal sets — a full look that can be worn all night.
How can I be sure?
There is no official hallmark for “Bahraini” — it is a trade description. Ask where the piece comes from, and look at the openwork and how clean the inner edges are; good Bahraini work shows on the inside, not the front.
Quick questions
Is Bahraini gold a special karat?
No. “Bahraini” describes the style of craftsmanship; the karat is separate and stamped on the piece (875 for 21K, for example).
